Programmatic - Engineering/Coding/Robotics Assistant

Do you have experience with Legos and Block coding? San José Public Library is looking for future engineers and coders to assist with a weekly Lego Spike Prime program. How You Will Make a Difference Volunteers help connect youth and adults with knowledge on coding and engineering. You will be helping the San José community learn a new and in-demand skill set by providing lesson plans and instruction. Classroom management experience is a plus, but volunteers will be trained in this area by library staff. Volunteers are needed to: Follow pre-made lesson plans Work with a library staff to review lesson plans and manage participants Have basic skills for conducting in-person meetings with SJPL staff support assist attendees with circuits, projects, and coding Benefits Encourage lifelong learning to community youth and adults Connect with your community and provide a desired service Share or gain experience with program management skills Develop mentoring and instruction skills Gain experience in training others and working with youth and adults Commitment/Schedule Assist with a 4 week LEGO SPRIKE program for 15-30 [ages10+] students using Lego Spike Prime Kits + iPads. Time commitment: 2.5 hours/week [30minutes before, 1.5 hr. for program, 30minutes after], If you can't volunteer the whole time, that is fine. Work with me help where you can! Assist with weekly Open Sphero Workshop for up to 15 participants using the Sphero Robots + iPads Time commitment: 2.5 hours/week [30minutes before, 1.5 hr. for program, 30minutes after], If you can't volunteer the whole time, that is fine. Work with me help where you can! Prospective volunteers should: Be comfortable with legos/sphero/robots/coding or have a willingness to learn the curricula which is beginner friendly Have experience or comfort with working with people of varying ages, backgrounds and skill levels Review course materials prior to class meeting Have strong oral communication skills. Bilingual skills desired Complete a fingerprint background check, at no cost to you. Only required if you are 18 years or older
