Rotary Club's Fish Day Fun

The Rotary Club of San Jose is our community’s largest and most active organization committed to “Service Above Self.” That undiluted message shines throughout one of the Rotary’s signature, annual volunteer events: Fish Day!

According to the Rotary: “The inaugural Fish Day was held in 1995, and the event has grown over the years into a highly anticipated tradition. For many students, it is their first experience fishing and connecting with the outdoors. Through both classroom instruction and the outdoor event, Fish Day aims to build knowledge of ecology and foster respect for the natural world.”

This year, Fish Day was held on April 25th at Sandy Wool Lake, Milpitas. There, inner city third graders were given the exciting chance to participate in various fishing activities. To ensure the event was a fulfilling experience for all participants, the Rotary opened the door to volunteers over 16-years old. Positions included “Fishing Buddies,” who worked directly with students fishing; event registration helpers; and general helpers. 

Altogether, the event was a wonderful bonding experience, full of discoveries for new fishers and contentment from mentoring volunteers.
